Irrigation Scam of Maharashtra: Let the truth come out: Ajit Pawar

“There is no question of the allegations damaging my reputation.”
Nagpur: NCP leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who faces an SIT probe, remains combative as ever.

He told TOI that he was confident that the truth would come out before people once the SIT probe is complete. The SIT, he said, was by no means an eyewash just because it was believed that it hadn’t been given any power. No one can for sure yet say the SIT has no power to take action as its terms of reference are yet to be decided, Pawar said. “Madhav Chitale is a man of impeccable reputation and an expert in this field. If he feels, Ajit Pawar, Sunil Tatkare or Nimbalkar, has done any wrong, he will most likely point it out. Let the truth come out,” he said.

Giving details of the framework within which the SIT will work, the NCP leader said it would look into cost escalations, tender violations and if any decisions were overruled at any point. Hinting that the SIT may even examine project permissions under the Shiv Sena-BJP rule, Pawar said the probe would begun from the year corporations were formed (1995).

Rubbishing words of his resignation, Pawar said he could not submit to these demands every time the opposition said so. “Why should I resign every time someone calls for my head? In that case, even the Prime Minister will have to resign again and again,” he said.
